Dickie and The Tornadoes have produced a great blast-from-the-past CD titled “Going Back Home”. The album contains 12 popular favorites such as Fats Domino’s ‘Goin Home”, Willie Bells’s ‘Everyday Will Be Like A Holiday’, Chuck Willis’s ‘C C Rider’ & ‘Betty and Dupree’, Jimmy Clanton’s ‘Just A Dream’, Bobby Charles’s ‘Your Picture’, Robert Osborn’s ‘Back To Louisiana’, and others.

Brad Goins writes in “Lagnnappe” Magazine: “The element that ties this genre-jumping together is that near-constant R&B big brass back up. The brass explores the full range of 1950s and 1960s R&B. And it stops when the ‘60s do; there’s no “sound of Philadelphia” here; it’s “sound of Memphis” all the way.

The disc did a big number on me when the band kicked into the burlesque classic “Honky Tonk”, a hugh rockabilly hit for jazzman Bill Doggett in 1956. I wasn’t surprised the Tornadoes’ brass got the riffs right. But when I heard those now-obscure burlesque guitar licks played lick for lick, that impressed me. You’re not going to hear that kind of playing these days unless you’re a Rev. Horton Heat fan.

Going Back Home CD Cover Also pleasing was the surprising “Just A Little Bit,” which opens with a signature Booker T. organ run that magically blooms into full-blown psychedelia in the break.

Dickie Peltier handles vocal and guitar. All that fantastic brass comes from Johnny Lindow on tenor sax and the Taylors Bayou Horns. Other members of the band are Steve Champagne (Bass), Scooter Green (Drums), and Don LeBlanc (Keyboards)

This is feel-good-hang-out-and-sip-Turbo-Dog music. Play it in your front yard and your neighbors will envy your R&B savvy. You only have to tell them it’s blue-eyed soul if you want to.”

Songs were recorded, mixed and mastered at The Musik Faktory/Great Recordings in Port Arthur, Texas.
